 THE CASTING HOTHOUSE

The Casting Hothouse, Equity’s unique intensive audition/casting workshop to maximise skills and employment outcomes in the US and Australian market place is returning in November.

Matt Skrobalak, vice president, casting, at CBS-Paramount TV is returning as is US feature film casting director, Margery Simkin plus Australia’s top casting directors, Christine King and Nikki Barrett.

The Casting Hothouse will take place over two and a half days from Friday November 16 to Sunday November 18 at the Australian Film, Television and Radio School at Moore Park in Sydney.

Hothouse is a major initiative by Equity to give members an opportunity to develop the skills and confidence to tackle the US and Australian casting experience head on.  It is NOT designed to assist Australian actors to leave Australia permanently. Rather it is an opportunity to equip Australian actors with the tools to work overseas as well as Australia and to show overseas companies that Australia has a professional talent pool. It will assist Australian performers to maintain a long lasting career.

So - if you have ever wanted to try your luck in LA or just improve your audition techniques for Australia then this is the workshop for you.

HOW IT WILL WORK

Two US casting directors plus Australian casting directors will host the workshops. They will issue scripts, film mock auditions, look at reading techniques, provide feedback and give the participants the skills to handle the pressure and get them through the whole experience unscarred.

60 performers will be allocated into three groups of 20 and they will work with all casting directors. The classes will be divided into modules (cold reading/prepared reading et al) and three groups of 20 performers will move between the different modules. All the delegates will meet regularly for follow up discussion and question time.

The intensity and length of the classes will ensure that the training and skills development is hard wired into them and their audition and casting skills become instinctive.

The Hothouse will commence on Friday November 16 from 12.30 pm to 4.30 pm with drinks to follow.  Saturday November 17 will commence at 9.00 am and finish at 5.15 pm with drinks to follow.  Sunday November 18 will start at 10.00 am and finish at 1.30 pm.
