RIOT, HOMECOMING QUEENS AND MYSTERY ROAD WIN 9th ANNUAL EQUITY ENSEMBLE AWARDS

on .

The actors who star in a powerful telemovie about Australia’s 1970s gay rights movement, a touching comedy series about two twenty-something friends navigating life with chronic illness and a gripping drama series about a disappearance on an outback cattle station have won the 9th annual Equity Ensemble Awards.

The cast members of Riot, Homecoming Queens and Mystery Road were voted by members of Equity Australia as the most outstanding ensembles in their respective categories.

Equity director Zoe Angus says the nominees and winners of the 9th annual Equity Awards are a timely reminder of why Equity fights so hard for Australian stories and Australian storytellers.

“The performances we witnessed over the last 12 months were nothing short of world-class. Equity is thrilled to honour our members for their fine work. We will continue fighting to ensure there are as many opportunities as possible for local performers to shine in local productions.”

Equity president Chloe Dallimore says the Ensemble Awards are a particularly special honour because they are the only actor-voted awards in country.

“What makes these productions particularly impressive isn’t the work of one performer. It’s the work of many, in perfect harmony. These awards recognise the truly collaborative process that makes good stories great viewing.”

Established by the Equity Foundation in 2011, the Ensemble Awards honour outstanding performances by television ensemble casts in Australian miniseries/telemovie, comedy and drama programs that aired in the last 12 months.

Nominees and finalists were honoured last night at an awards ceremony at Sydney.
