Bring Storyville to Your School!

on .

Who could be better at bringing the magic of stories to life than performers? Storyville pairs talented actors with schools to inspire young minds and spark a love of literature. Storyville volunteers currently read to almost 2,000 children across the country every week. The project has ambitions to grow by reaching more schools and by forging relationships with organisations that have shared literacy interests within the community.

All of our volunteers undergo training before being allocated to participating schools and are equipped with relevant working with children documents. Our readers commit to the program for at least an entire term, enabling them to establish a real bond with students.

“Storyville is important because it involves young children in imagination, listening and relating the stories to their lives and forming opinions about what’s happening around them.”
Benita Collings, actor, Play School.

Storyville in Tasmania!

on .

The rumours are true! Storyville has made the treacherous journey across the Bass Strait and into Tasmania! This state has a great challenge ahead of it when it comes to literacy, and we hope that bringing Storyville to its shores can help with this. Thanks to our Tasmanian volunteers such as Gerard Lane (pictured) and Anne Cordiner, we are bringing stories to those that need it most!
