The Equity Professional Program

The Equity Foundation hosts more than 100 events a year throughout Australia and New Zealand. The program is developed in close collaboration with performers.

Masterclasses
The Equity Foundation's masterclasses are designed to address our members’ need for ongoing professional development and provide rare opportunities to work with leading directors, coaches and casting agents.
Workshops
Our workshop series is an opportunity to work on specifics, such as acting for the camera, comedy, dancing, voiceovers and accents. Up to 10 members work over a two-hour period with an expert in their field.
In Conversation
As part of the foundation’s In Conversation series, performers are given the opportunity to attend an intimate question and answer session with leading international actors and directors. Sir Ian McKellen, Richard E Grant, Sam Neill, and Cate Blanchett are among those who have participated in the In Conversation events.
Casting Hothouse
Each year the Equity Foundation hosts a Casting Hothouse, which gives performers a unique opportunity to work with international casting agents, such as CBS TV Studios’ vice president of casting Matt Skrobalak and US feature film casting director Margery Simkin.
Student Days
We know how difficult it can be getting a toehold in the entertainment industry, so each year the Equity Foundation holds an industry day designed to provide graduates with important information and tools to help them on their way to a successful performance career.

Event description:

Back by overwhelming demand!   Due to an overwhelming response by members we have invited celebrated international screen-acting coach and multi award winning actress, Miranda Harcourt back to host a masterclass in Melbourne. Every actor will have the opportunity to workshop a scene and explore different approaches to text. You will work on your skills in the morning and you will shoot your scenes in the afternoon which will all be from current feature films and tv. This will help each actor transform their work, achieving authenticity and complexity.

Bio of host: Miranda is a celebrated international screen-acting coach. A multi-award-winning actress herself, she brings a diverse range of experiences and techniques to her work with actors of all ages and stages.     She has prepared actors to deliver powerful, critically acclaimed performances on a range of international films including, Bridge to Terabithia (2007, Gabor Csupo), Bright Star (2009, Jane Campion), The Lovely Bones (2009, Peter Jackson), Home by Christmas (2010, Gaylene Preston) and Soul Surfer (2011, Sean McNamara).   Miranda helps actors inhabit an authentic emotional world for their character which answers a director’s vision. She works all over the world in person and by skype.   In her work as an on-set coach Miranda has had the opportunity of working alongside and observing the on-set practice of actors such as Susan Sarandon, Mark Wahlberg, Rachel Weiss, Helen Hunt, Dennis Quaid, Ryan Gosling, Robert Patrick and Zooey Deschanel amongst others. As the endorsements below attest, Miranda's unique approach gets you to where you need to be quickly and effectively so you can do your best work.

"Miranda’s skills as an actress and coach place her at the top of her field. The work she does is unique anywhere in the world." - Peter Jackson (The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Lovely Bones, Heavenly Creatures)

"I'm so thankful to have met Miranda. After one lesson with her I viewed my acting in a whole new way. She gave me the tools to connect with my character, to connect with my fellow actors, to listen and respond without fear and to really let go and live in the scene. Miranda doesn't sugar-coat. She is a no nonsense teacher but you always feel that she is on your side. She creates a relaxed, inspiring learning environment. Across all genres, she know her stuff and really understands actors. So, Miranda, thank you for putting me on the right track with acting
." – Daniel Lissing (Crownies, Last Resort for FOX)
