This is for experienced actors*
(*Those who have completed a three year acting degree or who have had at least three years full time acting exerience.)
A masterclass in the playing comedy with the President of UK Equity, Malcolm Sinclair.
This workshop will examine the playing of comedy. Comedy as opposed to clowning. The repertoire will be English plays of the last few decades, and will concentrate on language, character, and the thorny question of 'style' and what that might mean. By examining scenes in depth we will attempt to discover the 'do's' and 'don'ts' of this type of work, and what it can tell us about the nature of acting and performance; lessons that can be applied across a whole range of work. The main question will be, what is comic acting, and is it any different from any other sort of acting?
Malcolm Sinclair has been an actor in the UK for almost forty years. He has been a major player at the National Theatre, appearing in a whole variety of work. He has premiered work by Alan Ayckbourn and David Hare, and frequently been directed by both authors. He has also starred in the plays of Noel Coward, Alan Bennett, Joe Orton, Peter Nicholls and Simon Gray. He's had a long television career, including 5 series of Pie in the Sky. His films include Casino Royale and V for Vendetta.
He is President of Equity UK.
