The Equity Professional Program

The Equity Foundation hosts more than 100 events a year throughout Australia and New Zealand. The program is developed in close collaboration with performers.

The Equity Foundation's masterclasses are designed to address our members’ need for ongoing professional development and provide rare opportunities to work with leading directors, coaches and casting agents.
Our workshop series is an opportunity to work on specifics, such as acting for the camera, comedy, dancing, voiceovers and accents. Up to 10 members work over a two-hour period with an expert in their field.
In Conversation
As part of the foundation’s In Conversation series, performers are given the opportunity to attend an intimate question and answer session with leading international actors and directors. Sir Ian McKellen, Richard E Grant, Sam Neill, and Cate Blanchett are among those who have participated in the In Conversation events.
Casting Hothouse 
Each year the Equity Foundation hosts a Casting Hothouse, which gives performers a unique opportunity to work with international casting agents, such as CBS TV Studios’ vice president of casting Matt Skrobalak and US feature film casting director Margery Simkin.
Student Days
We know how difficult it can be getting a toehold in the entertainment industry, so each year the Equity Foundation holds an industry day designed to provide graduates with important information and tools to help them on their way to a successful performance career.

An opportunity to hear and talk to Melanie Zanetti who has been working in the US and has taken part in 2 pilot seasons. You can hear about the audition process- the cultural differences – and all the nuts and bolts and details you are curious about…  Belinda Raisin will chair this session with plenty of time for Q and A.

Bio of host:   

Melanie Zanetti has just wrapped filming on her first LA role in the latest HBO / Project Greenlight feature The Leisure Class.  Executive produced by Project Greenlight creators Matt Damon and Ben Affleck and mentored by the Farrelly Brothers, The Leisure Class is based on director Jason Mann’s short film which premiered at London’s Raindance Festival in 2013.  It tells the story of the wealthy Langham Family with family patriarch played by Golden Globe Winner & Oscar Nominee Bruce Davison and family matriarch played by SAG Award Winner & Emmy Nominee Brenda Strong. Zanetti plays youngest daughter Carolyn Langham. Other principal cast include Ed Weeks (The Mindy Project) and English actor/comedian, Tom Bell.  Other feature film work for Melanie includes the lead female in Anchor Bay’s Battle Of The Damned opposite Dolph Lundgren; Annie in Tracks with Mia Wasikowska and Adam Driver for The Weinstein Company; and last year she wrapped the lead in the Australian indie feature, The Contents.  Zanetti’s theatre work for Queensland Theatre Company includes Juliet in Romeo & Juliet, Betty Parris in The Crucible and her Matilda Award winning portrayals of Eliza Doolittle in Pygmalion and Ellen in The Little Dog Laughed.

Belinda Raisin is a 2008 graduate of the University of Southern Queensland and has had a diverse career as an actor, singer, voice over artist & dancer. 

Her comedy cabaret, CONFESSIONS OF A CONTROL FREAK, has toured nationally received rave reviews and standing ovations and selling out two seasons at Brisbane’s Judith Wright Centre (JWCoCA).

This year Belinda also performed in Opera Queensland's Rigoletto, appeared in numerous commercials, co-devised and performed in Little Boxes for the Anywhere Theatre Festival and begun creating the sequel to her cabaret, performing a ten minute version for the Short and Sweet Cabaret Festival in August.

Other career highlights include touring nationally in David Burton’s APRIL’s FOOL performing with The Good Room on RABBIT, Queensland Theatre Company’s THE WORKSCABARET at the Empire Theatre and working on ABC Telemovie, MABO.

She has been a proud member of Equity since 2004 and an Equity Section Delegate on the QLD Branch Council since 2010.
