Event description:

An opportunity to work with actor, coach and casting freelancer, Gabriella Maselli McGrail, on the details and how to’s of television commercial casting to maximise your chances of getting that TVC that you are going for. Actors will learn about the advertising and casting process and creative ways to interpret, rehearse and play the TVC script in the casting studio. In this workshop you will explore TVC acting fundamentals such as the performance tone of commercial, media usages and the ever-changing environment of ads, as well as character essence, connecting to moments, and the technical aspects of working with products, eye-lines, props and blocking. There will be a chance for a limited number of attendees to workshop and film TVC scenes with feedback from Gabriella.

Bio of host:
Gabriella Maselli McGrail Gabriella has been teaching actors for 20 years. Initially creating a language drama workshop programme in schools and theatre in education, Gabriella now focuses her skills on teaching for the Screen. She tutors at many Acting Schools, and runs sessions from her Sydney studio. She studied at VCA and UCLA in America and gained a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Performing Arts and Media Studies (University of Melbourne) & a Master of Arts in Screenwriting (UWS). Gabriella’s acting career has seen her in lots of Australian shows, including Rake, Old School, Janet King, Packed to the Rafters, McLeod’s Daughters, East West 101 – not to mention Days of our Lives in USA. Her film career includes the multi-awarded films, Lantana and LaSpagnola. Best recognized as the face of many TV Commercials, she continues to book ads since shooting her first commercial 20 years ago. Gabriella has also assisted in TVC casting both in Australia and LA for over 10 years. These experiences have culminated in an Ebook, Transform Your Ad Audition! detailing the advertising industry and casting processes and a step by step methodology to prepare and audition for commercials. She is also a published writer for industry magazines, and co-writer for episodic comedy in Radio, Theatre and TV. Gabriella’s wealth of knowledge has made her into a gifted acting teacher with an in depth understanding of the industry and what’s required when auditioning for different genres of work. Recently she has adapted her coaching techniques into corporate presentation training, to develop more effective, engaging and influential public speakers.
