Equity’s National Performers’ Committee will meet this week to discuss a range of issues including the contracting of performers for video games, convergence and how it will impact performers, the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement, the upcoming negotiations for the commercial voiceover agreement, the ongoing offshore commercials strike and the progress of negotiations for Equity’s TV agreements.
Equity is awaiting a revised pay offer from Seven Network for the agreement which covers the performers who work on their in-house drama productions, including Home & Away, Winners & Losers and Packed to the Rafters. Seven has offered 3 – 3.5% for the one-year agreement. Equity is seeking 4%.
More than 50 representatives from performers’ unions around the world will gather in Sydney this week to discuss issues facing performers and their industry including copyright, international campaigns, the increasing phenomenon of recording live performances, and ways to grow performer union power and influence. Equity looks forward to welcoming our colleagues from around the world including Denmark, Switzerland, Morocco, the UK, USA, Canada, New Zealand and Chile.
Next week marks the beginning of a busy year for the Australian government's trade negotiators.
