The Equity Foundation is delighted to announce that Auckland-based Afro-Latino actor Keven Souza is the winner of our Neighbours Graduate Internship.
Keven graduated from NZ’s prestigious The Actors’ Program in 2022. He will spend a week on the set of Neighbours, a new revival of the iconic series being created by Fremantle for Amazon Prime, in Melbourne in December.
Keven was selected by the casting department of Neighbours from more than 100 impressive graduates from across Australia and New Zealand.
Neighbours casting director Thea McLeod, of McLeod Casting, says: “As is always the case with the Equity Graduate Internship we were lucky to be graced by an abundance of exceptional talent, making our selection process an absolute pleasure! Witnessing such a rich tapestry of gifted actors was inspiring. Keven was an undeniable standout thanks to his energetic and authentically captivating performance. We eagerly await his promising journey in the arts.”
As Equity NZ President and founder of The Actors Program, Jennifer Ward-Lealand is doubly proud that Keven has been chosen as this year’s recipient: “We are very proud that he is representing us and look forward to following his career with interest.”
Neighbours series producer Andrew Thompson says: “We are thrilled to continue our partnership with the Equity Foundation and offer opportunities to aspiring and talented young actors such as Keven. It’s a rewarding experience for all involved – our directors, producers, writers and cast – to foster newcomers to the industry and to later witness their ongoing success. We look forward to welcoming our first recipient from New Zealand to the Neighbours family.”
Of being selected for the internship, Equity New Zealand member Keven says: “I am beyond excited and grateful for this opportunity to intern for such an iconic show like Neighbours. I’m looking forward to learning about the different moving parts that keep a show like this afloat and I cannot wait to observe great actors doing their thing.”
This paid internship is made possible with the generous support of Media Super. Keven will receive return flights and accommodation for the duration of the internship. He will also be paid at the appropriate award rate.
Media Super Deputy CEO and Chief Member Officer Marianne Walker says: “Media Super is proud to support this internship. As the arts and entertainment industry’s own super fund, we remain committed to supporting opportunities for new and emerging talent.”
