This free event is an opportunity to gather in-person as an industry for inspiring conversation about surviving and thriving as a creative under the new circumstances we find ourselves in 2021. Sessions will feature a range of industry leaders and specialised experts including; clinical psychologist/co-author of Living With A Creative Mind Dr Julie Crabtree, CEO South Australian Film Corporation Kate Croser, actor/director/producer Jamila Main, Artistic Director State Theatre Company of South Australia Mitchell Butel, Production Manager Bettina Hamilton, actor Shabana Azeez and actor Rachel Burke.

Jamila Main
Since graduating from Acting at Adelaide College of the Arts (2018), Jamila has become a prolific and respected actor and playwright working across Adelaide, Sydney, and Melbourne. Jamila has starred in works across stage and screen, including Butterfly Kicks (RUMPUS 2021), the acclaimed Aleppo. A Portrait of Absence (Adelaide Festival, 2020), and is a regular at Vitalstatistix (How Long Can This Last?; Set Piece).An advocate for disabled inclusion, Jamila was commissioned for the ground-breaking article ‘On the Precipice: Theatre for the Isolated Audience’ (ArtsHub, 2020).Jamila is currently a Carclew Fellow and Artist-in-Residence, Co-Chair of the Equity Diversity Committee, an Advisor on the National Advisory Panel for Australian Plays Transform, a teaching artist with True Ability, a disability consultant, and the Access Coordinator at RUMPUS.
Kate Croser
Kate Croser is the Chief Executive Officer of the South Australian Film Corporation.Formerly an award-winning film and television producer, Kate's work has been nominated for and won Australian Academy Awards and screened at the world’s most prestigious international film festivals.Kate has established successful independent production and distribution companies including Hedone Productions, nominated for Australian Screen Business of the Year at the 2015 Screen Producers Australia awards.Kate is a member of the board of the South Australian Film Corporation and previously served for five years as a Councillor for Screen Producers Australia, the peak industry body for independent screen production in Australia.
Rachel Burke
Rachel graduated from Flinders University Drama Centre with First Class Honours and a University Medal in a Bachelor of Creative Arts (Drama) in 2015. Since graduating Rachel has performed in Bluey’s Big Play (Windmill/HVK), Macbeth, A Doll’s House, In the Club, Sense and Sensibility (STCSA Ensemble), Jasper Jones and Decameron 2.0 (STCSA), Angelique (isthisyours?), Cranky Bear, The Lighthouse (Patch), Limit, Red Sky Morning (STCSA Umbrella), Tartuffe (STCSA/Brink), The Wolves (RUMPUS), Speak Out (ActNow), Foolz (Flinders University), My Beautiful Radio Station (Expressway Arts) and This Storm (The Unrest Cure). She was an Intimacy Consultant on Requiem (Adelaide Festival) and was assistant director on As One (Tiny Bricks) and Love and Information (Flinders Drama Centre).
Shabana Azeez
Shabana Azeez has quickly established herself as one of the most exciting actors to watch with her undeniable talent and magnetic screen presence. As a breakout star of HBO Max’s Emmy-winning hit series, THE PITT, she can be seen reprising her role as “Victoria Javadi” in the second season which is currently streaming on Max in the USA, Binge in Australia and a number of other platforms around the world. The series has been lauded by audiences and critics alike and Shabana’s work has regularly been singled out for being both nuanced and engaging. The series has garnered multiple awards for its successful first season including the Emmy for ‘Outstanding Drama Series’, a Golden Globe for ‘Best Television Series – Drama’, a Critics Choice Award for ‘Best Drama Series’, an Actor Award for ‘Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series’, multiple TCA Awards and AFI recognition for ‘TV Programs of the Year,’ among others. She recently wrapped production on SBS’s new drama, THE AIRPORT CHAPLAIN. The eight-part series stars Shabana opposite Hugo Weaving and captures the high-stakes world of a bustling international airport, told through the struggles and triumphs of the workers who keep it running. Recently in film, she voiced the lead character of “Saira” in the animated feature film LESBIAN SPACE PRINCESS which was selected for the 2025 Berlinale where it won the Teddy Award, an international film award that recognizes films with LGBTQIA+ topics. The film was recently honored with an AACTA Award for ‘Best Indie Film’. Previously in film, she starred as “Irene” in the feature film, BIRDEATER, for which she was awarded ‘Best Actress’ by the Australian Film Critics Association. The film also won the AACTA for ‘Best Independent Feature Film’, the audience award for ‘Best Australian Narrative Feature at Sydney Film Festival’ and had sold out screenings at Melbourne International Film Festival prior to a very well-received release in the USA at SXSW. Shabana can also be seen in a number of other feature films, short films and web series. She co-won ‘Best Female Actor’ at Tropfest in 2019 and was nominated for ‘Best Performance’ at Stellar Film Festival and ‘Best Actress’ at the South Australian Screen Awards for her work in the feature CRUSH. She also plays “Lali” in the short film I’M THE MOST RACIST PERSON I KNOW which won the Special Jury Award at SXSW 2025, ‘Best Short Film’ at Cinefest Oz in 2025 and ‘Best Short Film’ at the 2026 AACTA Awards. Previous television credits include roles on the animated series TALES FROM OUTER SUBURBIA, ABC’s IN LIMBO, SBS’s THE HUNTING, Netflix’s APPLE CIDER VINEGAR, Disney+’s NAUTILUS, ABC’S UTOPIA and WHY ARE YOU LIKE THIS?. Shabana also regularly lends her voice and talent for accents to voiceover work and audiobooks, including the very important story Home to Biloela by Priya Nadesalingam. Splitting her time between Australia and Los Angeles, she continues to take on bold, diverse roles that showcase her talent and versatility while highlighting her passion for telling stories that push the envelope.
Bettina Hamilton
Bettina Hamilton has worked as a Production Manager, Coordinator and Accountant in SA for the last fifteen years and most notably was the first production manager back in production in Adelaide post COVID with ABC and Closer Productions' series "Aftertaste", currently available to watch on iView. Bettina was also the production manager of upcoming feature film "Gold" (Stan) starring Zac Efron, kid's factual series "Are You Tougher Than Your Ancestors?" (ABC) and the award winning teenage drama "The Hunting" (SBS). A strong believer in cast and crew safety and wellbeing, Bettina has an interest in exploring alternative production methodologies to enhance screen production work life balance.
