Host(s)

  • Paul Ghica

Romanian-born cellist and arranger Paul Ghica is part of a small but growing number of classically-trained, multi-genre musicians. Whether in Melbourne’s Hamer Hall, Chicago’s House of Blues, or Off-Broadway in New York, Paul enjoys stretching the cello’s boundaries. Paul began studying cello with his father at the age of eight. He spent his formative years studying with Corneliu Rădulescu, before being awarded scholarships to study at Indiana and Roosevelt Universities. While at Indiana, Paul played regularly for János Starker, and was later invited to perform in the Chicago Cello Society’s tribute to Mr. Starker, who was in attendance. Paul has collaborated on Yo-Yo Ma’s Silk Road Project as part of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago’s MusiCorps fellowship, with whom he also served as principal cellist. Today, Paul plays regularly with the Opera Australia Orchestra, Sydney Symphony Orchestra and Melbourne Chamber Orchestra. He is also a recording artist and arranger in Sydney’s film and television scene.
  • Katherine Lukey

Katherine Lukey was appointed Deputy Concertmaster of the Opera Australia Orchestra in 2016. She has also served as Guest Principal 2nd violin with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Assistant Concertmaster of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and Principal 1st Violin of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. As a soloist, Katherine has appeared with the Queensland Symphony, Melbourne Chamber, Metropolitan, Sydney Conservatorium, and Darwin Symphony Orchestras. She won the Hephzibah Menuhin and Kendall Violin Competitions and was an ABC Young Performers Award string finalist. Katherine is an ANAM alum, former member of the Verbier Festival Orchestra and also performs regularly with the Australian Chamber Orchestra & Australian World Orchestra. When not playing violin, Katherine indulges in her other passion: racing in and training for triathlons.
